Head Injuries – Brain Disability
Public Group active 3 months, 4 weeks agoA disability in the brain occurs due to a brain injury. The magnitude of the brain injury can range from mild, moderate and severe. There are two types of brain injuries:
Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
ABI is not a hereditary type defect but is the degeneration that occurs after birth.
The causes of such cases of injury are many and are mainly because of external forces applied to the body parts. TBI results in emotional dysfunctioning and behavioral disturbance.

Head Injuries – Brain Disability: 3 months, 4 weeks ago · ViewHi group. I have a condition called OPCA (olivopontocerebellar atrophy). Basically thee is atrophy (shrinking) occuring on the cerebellum and other part of the brain. The biggest side effect for me so far is walking. it has become more and more difficult to walk. I started using a cane six months ago but have recently ”graduated” to foearm crutches. The condition is usually hereditary but in any case, there really isn’t anything they can do except treat the symptoms. Will write more when I get the chance.

Head Injuries – Brain Disability: 10 months ago · ViewHello everyone. I’m new to this…just got registered today. But I think this is the group I need to be in so I’ll try it. What happened was way back in 1973, I had a head injury. At the time, all they did was stitch up my head and send me on my way. Then something like 35 years later, I start having a problem with seizures caused by scar tissue found on my brain. Anyway, I’m looking forward to hearing from everyone and keeping in touch.

Head Injuries – Brain Disability: 1 year, 7 months ago · ViewI cracked my cranium when I was 17. It was cracked from the left orbital across the ridge and forehead and right temporal ending at the right auditory canal. I had dissociative experiences along with it. . . The plethora of health problems I have experienced and that have been individually diagnosed, we now know collectively as brain injury. Finding such out had a traumatic impact on me. I had to go through a grieving process because of it. Anyway, I am very thankful that I do well compared to others who experience brain injury. Am just more entertaining than others!
