Personality Disorders – Defined as deeply inadequate patterns of behavior and thought of sufficient severity to cause significant impairment to day-to-day activities.
Schizophrenia: A mental disorder characterized by disturbances of thinking, mood, and behavior.

I have depression and anxiety, and have made huge changes in my life to have a great life, and keep healthy. I have learned an enormous amount about the difficulties that a lot of people have lived with as I worked through my symptoms. Luckily, the most crippling symptoms have almost disappeared, which I am so grateful for.

I have suffered from and lived with fibromyalgia for over 32 years, and just recently was approved for full disability. In addition to the fibromyalgia I’ve also been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and PTSD. While psychologists and psychiatrists seen over the years have never put the two disorders together, I personally have always known in my heart and soul that the two overlap with each other. By this I mean that the mental disorders all started first when I was 22 years old and my first wife left me after cheating on me with another man. I was raised in the Catholic church and back in the early 70’s when I married my high school sweetheart divorce was just not an option for a practicing Catholic. In addition to this I truly loved that women and was devastated when she left. I still remember like it was yesterday going to bed one night shortly after she was gone for good and then waking up the next morning a different person. Something happened to my brain during the night and upon awakening the next morning I had overwhelming fear and massive panic attacks anytime I was in the presence of women in particular, and men to a somewhat lesser degree. To make a long story much shorter the fibromyalgia and all over body pain started some eight years later do to a horrible golf swing and new physical trauma/damage to thoracic spine at two different levels. So many more things have happened since this time in my life with some bad and some truly awesome including my current wife, children, and new granddaughter. I’m so greatful to have found this wonderful site, and moreover this group of people in this forum. My mental disabilities will hopefully allow me to both relate with many in this group, and hopefully add some insight and cheer for someone having a bad day. Hi Jerry, tessa here! Could you please explain to me what PTSD is? it was very comforting to read about your story cuz after all everything went well, second wife, kids and granddaughter included. Those are blessings, believe me I know. I’m a divorcee but my kids are here with me and I know they need me, even with the difficulties I encounter after the stroke and living with bi-polar disorder (more or less taken care of with the help of medication). Thank you for your kind words.

We believe the correct thing to say is ”I live with a mood disorder” or”I have bi-polar disorder”. It is not good to say things like ”I am bi-polar” or anything that labels you as your disability. That is only a part of you, it is not you.

Would someone literally say they are psychologically or mentally disabled? It seems more appropriate to say ”I live with a disorder”, doesn’t it?

When it comes down to it. It’s just a matter of personal perferance. You can call your self what every you like. But when it comes to calling some one else, I usually just say, ”there mentally ill or mentally disabled.” Hell, I mentally ill & usually just call my self. ”crazy.” LOL

Hi Mary I’m getting back at u finally
I slept in ths morning which isn’t so good as it leaves me with much less day time, and considering it takes me 1 to 2 hrs to write a proper nice and long letter….English isn’t my mother tongue, though I manage pretty much ok, typing isn’t easy, never was, and even if i type with 2 hands i still use 3 to 4 to 5 fingers with my left hand and only 2 with my right hand…..So, how are u doing today, How’s the weather, what’re u doing all day long? General questions cuz I didnt really find much info on your profile… mine is full with info and I decided to leave it open to public cuz it may help ppl to get to know about me a bit more, or see wether we share interests.
